Manchester United have never been shy of splashing the cash in transfer windows.

But January is not the time the English giants tend to do their main business in. CEO Richard Arnold is desperate to lure Harry Kane to Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag told him his priority was to land a world class No.9 before the start of next season.

Arnold had considered making an approach to Tottenham this month, but is now expected to wait until the summer to begin his game of brinksmanship with Spurs counterpart Daniel Levy.

England captain Kane will be entering the final 12 months of his current deal and has let it be known he would be open to joining a club that can offer him Champions League football and a better chances of winning trophies.

Spurs remain desperate to keep Kane and want him to sign a new and improved deal. But there is a growing feeling at the London club that the 29-year-old would like a fresh challenge.

If Kane makes it clear he wants to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Levy is expected to hold out for a fee of up to £85m.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also interested in signing Kane, but England's joint-record goalscorer would favour remaining in the Premier League instead.

For the time being, though, Ten Hag's main priorities this month were to sign a forward on a short term deal along with a backup goalkeeper.

Wout Weghorst joined United on-loan from Besiktas until the end of the season, while Jack Butland also completed a move to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire have been linked with loan moves but will remain at Old Trafford for now. Inter Milan have expressed interest in the latter, but the England captain has turned down the chance of a loan move and will weigh up his options in the summer.

Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri could be allowed to leave on-loan should the right club come in for them. One player United could make a shock swoop for is former Leeds star Raphinha.

The winger joined Barcelona last summer but has struggled to make an impact and with the Spanish giants needing to free up funds to sign Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan, could make the Brazilian available.

United, meanwhile, retain a strong interest in Jude Bellingham but could turn their attentions to Bayern's Ryan Gravenberch instead, should the England and Borussia Dortmund sensation snub them in favour of going elsewhere.
