Aldi customers have been put on high alert and told not to eat a recalled bakery item due to an ongoing police probe. The supermarket giant had to pull its Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White off the shelves last month amid concerns they "may have been tampered with".

Back in March, Aldi sounded the alarm by issuing a recall notice for the tortilla wraps, citing safety fears over the "possible presence of metal". The recall affects all best before dates up to and including April 29, 2024, for the Signature Flatbreads UK product, which comes in a pack size of 8x62g only. No other Aldi products are affected.

Shoppers who've bought the item are being encouraged to bring it back to their nearest Aldi store. Notices have been posted at Aldi stores stocking the wraps, warning customers not to eat them. In a recent update, Aldi has confirmed that the recall is part of an "active police investigation".

Today an Aldi spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White because this product may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.

“We would like to reassure our customers that no other Aldi products are affected and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Aldi has affirmed that the wraps have been recalled from all of its stores, while issuing an apology to customers "that this product did not meet our normal high standards". Should you have purchased the item in question, you can return it for a complete refund, and for further information, Aldi's customer services can be contacted on 0800 042 0800.

In addition, The Food Standards Agency (FSA) disclosed that Signature Flatbreads UK is "working with the relevant food and police agencies to investigate the cause of the contamination". It also reassured that no other items from Aldi or Signature Flatbreads UK are subject to the problem.

Aldi confirmed its supplier is recalling Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White and no other Aldi products are affected.
