This is the terrifying moment a car smashed into a classroom at high speed.

Distressing dashcam footage taken outside Beacon Church of England Primary School in Liverpool shows a white car slam into the back of a black vehicle before moving at some speed across the road and crashing into a metal fence surrounding the building. Just seconds later smoke could be seen coming from where the car had entered the school grounds.

A driver was then seen pulling up close to where the crash happened as others slowed down. Images taken inside the school showed the white vehicle had smashed up a nursery classroom, leaving debris strewn about the floor, and that it eventually came to a stop close to a wall.

Since being uploaded on Monday evening, the video showing the crash has been viewed more than 454,000 times on X, formerly Twitter. Another clip uploaded by the same account showed the inside of the classroom with a huge hole in the side of the wall where the car smashed through.

Emergency services raced to the school in Heyworth Street, Everton at about 8:30 am on April 22. Following the crash, the building was evacuated and pupils were sent home for the day.

Merseyside Police said a 39-year-old woman from Walton was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and careless driving before being taken to a police station. "The woman has been released under investigation," a Merseyside Police spokesperson told the Mirror today.

Pupils were reportedly inside the school hall attending a breakfast club at the time of the crash, according to the Liverpool Echo. A full roll call was carried out at the school and all pupils were accounted for.

A school spokesperson told the outlet: "We will have the building properly assessed as a priority and hope to be able to open the majority of the building tomorrow but will confirm this directly to the school community in due course.” Utilities in the classroom have been isolated and a structural engineer was requested to attend.

North West Ambulance Service crews sent a response vehicle and an operational commander to the scene. It was reported that two patients were treated for minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

Road closures were put in place by police on Heyworth Street and drivers were asked to seek alternate routes. A police cordon was also seen to extend to Mere Lane.
