Three out of four central cast members have been revealed, with Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley set to play pensioners who solve cold cases for fun.

Retired nurse Joyce is the only character who has not been assigned yet, but Richard also gave a sneaky hint that they have an A-lister lined up for the role.

"Joyce, we’re still in negotiations but again the name is the one that people most shout at me in the street," he said. "Lots more casting to come in the following weeks."

Hollywood icon Steven Spielberg initially snapped up the filming rights for the bestseller, which follows a group of friends in retirement as they end up in hot water after accidentally becoming entangled in a real murder.

Production is set to take place in the UK between the end of June and September.

Richard Osman left Pointless after 13 years on the quiz show in 2022 as his other career started taking off.

At the time he admitted he was quitting the BBC One programme in the hopes of investing more time into his writing.

The TV star bagged a £1.1million book deal for his debut novel after a bidding war between TEN publishers.

But he had to juggle writing The Thursday Murder Club with his TV work and his other job as creative director of production firm Endemol Shine

Now he has been able to focus on churning out novels, and has been delighted by the response his first one received.

Richard shared: "I’m over the moon that everyone likes it so much and people will read it.

"I’m weirdly more excited that the Americans and the Germans and the French have bought it — because they don’t know who I am.

"For them, it’s not some boring celebrity who’s written a novel, they just read the book and really loved it."
