Jurgen Klopp is looking to become the first Liverpool manager to win ten Merseyside derbies on Wednesday night.

The German will take the Reds to Goodison Park for the last time as he eyes three points which will keep his team firmly in the hunt for the title. Their win at Fulham on Sunday got them back on track after a difficult week and they must now negotiate with their neighbours.

Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 earlier this season, owing to two Mohamed Salah strikes. That put Klopp on nine derby wins, the majority of which have come at Anfield, and he can see that go to double figures if they down the Toffees.

Klopp is the longest-serving Liverpool manager of the Premier League era. Rafa Benitez and Gerard Houllier both had six years at the helm, but both had Merseyside derbt setbacks during their tenures.

Goodison Park hasn't been the most successful ground for Klopp however with Everton often halting Liverpool's progress. Rarely have they tasted defeat but the majority of games have finished as stalemates - including five of the last six. He has enjoyed some memorable derby wins though, including the last-minute winner from Divock Origi which led to Klopp's iconic celebration on the pitch in stoppage time with Alisson.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored in Liverpool's win at Craven Cottage on Sunday and admits, that while the Reds are in a title fight and Everton are trying to avoid relegation, any form will go out of the window.

He said: "Already it is exciting. When it comes to derbies, football kind of goes out of the window. It is who wants to win it more. They've got a good result today, we've got a good result. It will be two teams in decent form."

Liverpool can ill-afford to drop points with just a matter of weeks left until the end of the season. They have a narrow advantage over Manchester City, but have played a game more and know they need the champions to drop points, although they're not holding their breath.

He said: "I think at this point of the season, in our minds, they won't drop points. We need to be in a position similar to last week. We kicked ourselves. If anyone drops points around us, we need to be in the best position we can aim for. Five out of five wins is the aim for us."

Liverpool have only been beaten once by Everton in all tournaments since Klopp took charge in October 2015 - that was a 2-0 reverse at Anfield during the Covid season as Carlo Ancelotti masterminded a rare triumph.
