Amazon's Spring Deal Day event has begun, with bargain hunters snapping up the first deals of the five-day event from midnight. There are already big reductions on much-loved brands including Ninja, Shark, Fitbit, Google, Tefal, Elemis, and Lego as well as discounts on Amazon branded gadgets including Kindles, Ring doorbells and much more.

But to get the biggest discounts and most tempting offers, Amazon shoppers need to have signed up for Prime membership, with subscribers to the event given exclusive access to so-called WOW deals, a series of limited quantity, limited time discounts on some of the retailer's biggest and most popular brands.

Shoppers keen to take part can sign up for a free Prime trial to get access to the deals, which will be divided by theme across the five days of the event. Access to Prime allows shoppers a host of other free perks, including music streaming, TV and film streaming and even free Deliveroo Plus.

Amazon has been tight lipped about the exact contents of the WOW deals ahead of the spring sale launch, saying only that the products will be available for a maximum of eight hours - although they'll finish sooner if things sell out - and releasing a rough outline for the kinds of products available on each day of the sale.

On Black Friday we saw some huge sell-out deals which caused a stir with gadget fans, including flat screen Amazon Fire TVs reduced by hundreds of pounds, so signing up for a free Prime trial, which can be cancelled without charge within 30 days is worth doing if you're looking to bag that kind of high-value tech.

Gadget fans should make sure they're watching WOW deals today (Wednesday), with Amazon devices, PCs, electronics, wireless and sports tech all earmarked for discounts. Meanwhile, on Thursday the deals will focus on homewares, DIY, furniture and Friday will about all things fashion including watches, luggage, shoes, sportswear and Amazon own label brands.

Saturday is the day people hoping to save money on essentials will need to keep an eye on the site with deals including groceries, nutrition and supplements going live, Sunday will include kitchenware and groceries and Monday will cover personal care gadgets, health and personal care, baby and beauty products.

Wow Deals will be available on a special section of the site and shoppers can sign up for alerts to get notifications as deals go live but there are plenty of other discounts available across the various categories ahead of their allocated days, for example with up to 40% off Foreo beauty devices already live, well ahead of the Monday beauty deals available to Prime subscribers.

This is the second year Amazon has run a spring sale event to complement their popular and well-established Prime Day and Black Friday sales extravaganzas and this year a host of other retailers have launched competing sales to tempt shoppers keen to bag a bargain, including Antler, eBay, Ninja, Lakeland, Dunelm and Oodie.
