Dancing On Ice's Greg Rutherford has said his family are going through a "tough time" after his serious show injury.

The 37-year-old had to pull out of the final of the ITV show when he sustained an injury during rehearsals. He recently shared a picture of his scary following surgery.

He said he "effectively gave myself a C-section" after he tore his abs when he tried to skate through the legs of professional skater Colin Grafton. Opening up to his followers, Greg revealed that his family had been struggling since he had his injury. Taking to his Instagram stories, he wrote: "We're having a s*** time as a family at the moment so I'm cooking through it. Thanks for all your well wishes."

Greg is engaged to Susie Verill and the pair are parents to two sons Milo, eight, and Rex, five, and a daughter Daphne, two. He recently took to Instagram to share a collection of photos of his scar. Alongside he wrote: "A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better. I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.

"I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates." Greg sustained the injury by sliding through the legs of professional skaters Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton and was forced to withdraw from the competition on the morning of the final. Two weeks following Ryan Thomas and Amani Fancy's win, Greg broke his silence via a post on his Instagram account, letting his fans know his injury would be operated on that same day, March 21.

"Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section", he had then detailed. Hours later, he'd shared a post-op update, writing: "Operation done. Recovery starts here."

Greg also showed his followers the moment he sustained his "horribly painful" injury through a video and explained: "It needs to be operated on today and then I'll be properly on the mend."
