South Korea's touted "first ever" sex festival, bearing the title '2024 KFX The Fashion', has been canned merely hours before its deputed start as performers pulled out in fear - of being stabbed and killed.

The gala was organised by 'Play Joker' and, as per the announcements, it was supposed to take place aboard a ship at Jamwon Hangang Park in Seoul on April 21 and 22. However, due to mounting pressure from councils and women's groups, the event which was supposed to feature an array of Japanese adult stars ended up swapping locations thrice. This cost Mr Lee Hee Tae - the chief of Play Joker, a pretty penny.

The council enforced extreme measures to ensure the grand event, now secretively nicked to Gangnam district bar in Seoul, did not go through. According to BBC, Gangnam council sent out letters to each and every one of its scores of diners warning them they would be shut down if they played host to the event, terming it as "morally harmful".

Despite the council's threats, the bar was immovable yet disaster called upon once more when the show's Japanese stars backed out fearing potential violence even stabbing, reports the Daily Star.

Their agency stated the backlash to this festival had "reached fever pitch". The astonished Mr. Lee, in chats with BBC, said he couldn't belive "such an unthinkable turn" had taken place sharing that he was threatened with death himself.

"I have been treated like a criminal without doing anything illegal", he retorted angrily.

It was all above board, he insisted, as there would be no nudity or sexual acts involved. According to the BBC, the event was set to feature a bondage fashion parade, an exhibition of sex toys, and some cheeky adult games that included popping balloons with people's bodies.

"Virtually every developed country has a sex festival, but here in South Korea we don't even have an adult entertainment culture. I want to take the first steps towards creating one," Lee Hee Tae declared.

He also criticised the nation's outdated views on sexuality. He said: "The authorities are hypocrites. If you go online everyone is sharing pornography, then people log off and pretend they are innocent. How much longer are we going to keep up this pretence?"
