Manchester United are ready to firm up their interest in Gielson Bremer ahead of the arrival of the club's prospective new sporting director, Dan Ashworth.
It's anticipated that the Red Devils will be busy this summer following several structural changes. Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now at the helm after acquiring a minority stake in the club and has already made his mark behind the scenes.
It's widely been reported that one of the 71-year-old's most pressing priorities was the appointment of a new sporting director and Ashworth, who has impressed in roles with Newcastle, Brighton and The Football Association, has emerged as a primary target.
He's currently on gardening leave while United attempt to agree a financial package for his services, but summer recruitment plans are starting to take shape in the meantime.
United are keen to bolster their defence in the summer window and Bremer is on the club's radar after impressing at Juventus. While Ashworth will be tasked with overseeing the club's recruitment strategy and will have a deciding say in transfer matters, it's been claimed by reports overseas that he has endorsed Bremer, although this is unconfirmed.
Premier League odds and betting tipsIt's previously been reported that Bremer has a £43million release clause in his contract; a sum which is unlikely to be viewed as excessive. Ratcliffe has already expressed a desire to move away from the habit of spending huge amounts of money on ageing players.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is also on United's radar following a string of impressive performances for the Premier League strugglers this term. At just 21 years of age, he fits the profile of perspective signings United want to pursue, although he would likely command an extremely high transfer fee.

With United open to signing two new centre-backs in the summer, departures are also expected. Raphael Varane is due to be a free agent at the end of the season and, barring a late change of heart is likely to leave the club.
The former Real Madrid defender made a big impression after signing for United in the summer of 2021 but has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag this term, with the Dutchman instead handing an olive branch to former captain Harry Maguire.
It's broadly anticipated that several other high-earners are likely to be made available for transfer at the end of the season too, meaning the likes of Casemiro and Antony could join Varane out the exit door.
