BRITISH Airways passengers were told about a food and drinks price rise — mid-flight at 30,000ft.

They were given the sobering news over the public address system by a steward.

He told them to ignore prices published on the in-seat menu cards — as they had been increased that day.

“They’ve sneakily introduced this without making an official announcement.

“It just feels like they want to rip us off.”

The increases — said to be about ten per cent — covered sandwiches by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, breakfast bacon rolls, cream tea with scones as well as all beer, spirits, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

Anything else, including a cuppa, from BA’s High Life Cafe menu has to be paid for.

Prices are already steep — a ham and cheese sandwich costs £5.50, with a gin and tonic at £8.

A 90g pack of Naked Japanese Style Chicken Flavour Noodles, which cost just £1.50 at Sainsbury’s, is £5 on a BA flight.

Last night the airline said: “We’ve made some very small alterations to prices of snacks and drinks on our short-haul flights.

"These were scheduled changes and all on-board menus are in the process of being updated.”
