Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith has issued an urgent apology after an interview with a weekend magazine in which he speaks about his royal niece hit news stands today - hours after the Princess bravely went public with her cancer battle.
Gary, who was the first housemate to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house, spoke about the Princess of Wales' disappearance from the spotlight in his latest interview titled Gary Goldsmith: Camilla, Kate, William and me. He also weighs in on the state of Kate's marriage to Prince William, their 'feud' with Meghan Markle and the Middleton's business Party Pieces collapsing.
On Friday night, Kate shared a candid video message in which she revealed in her own words that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
After realising the horror of of his ill-timed chat being published this weekend, Kate's uncle Gary took to Twitter to apologise and explain his actions.
He told his followers: "As many will have seen, I am featured in Saturday's "Times Magazine". This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and went to print before I was aware of the sad news regarding my niece Kate. My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time and deeply upset at the timing of this article. I hope this draws a line over the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William & the children time and show some love back."
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekOne of his followers replied: "I think you need to read the room," adding, "It’s probably best to just stay quiet and dignified."
During the bombshell interview with The Times Gary claims that Kate and William are not 'at their happiest'. Asked if the Prince and Princess of Wales are as content as they once were, Gary candidly reveals: "Great question. And I’m going to be as honest as I can be. Our beloved Queen Elizabeth dies and they lose the security of their grandmother. Then Will’s father has only just had his bloody coins printed and suddenly he’s got significant health worries too.
"Then they’ve also got this bloody uncle that no one would want, because the arrogance and naivety of Andrew is just beyond me. I’ve been in the same room as him and, believe me, that was enough. I’ve got more chance of making it onto the Palace balcony than he has. And then you’ve got Harry. F*** me! He and that woman are chasing the American corporate dollar and that is so, so ugly. William, Harry and Kate were such a happy little trio and it got totally ruined. With all that going on — and there is other stuff going on that is not in the public domain — are they at their absolute happiest? No. Their kids bring them a lot of joy, but no.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Gary makes a number of personal revelations about the couple including how he bought Kate her first Gucci handbag and taught William how to DJ.
He also takes aim at Meghan Markle, who together with Harry reached out to Kate last night in a show of support after her diagnosis was revealed. Gary says he's 'so angry' with what Meghan has said about Kate.
“That’s why it makes me so angry about what Meghan said about Kate,” Goldsmith says. "Me and Carole grew up in a community as diverse as a Woolies pick’n’mix counter. All the cultures you can think of. The idea that Laughing Girl says Kate is racist makes me furious. Kate knows her family’s roots and is proud of them. I’m sorry, but Laughing Girl is not good people.”
The interview, which is published in The Times' Saturday supplement today, comes with the following note: "Today’s Times Magazine was printed several days before news of the Princess of Wales’ illness was made public and the interview conducted on March 14"
Gary had been due to appear at the Celebrity Big Brother final on Friday night but pulled out at the 11th hour after hearing Kate's video announcement.
He was the first housemate evicted from the ITV reality show, with the businessman and podcast host surviving five days before he was evicted after a public vote.
Sharing her health battle for the first time on Friday night, Kate revealed she is undergoing chemotherapy treatment after 'major' abdominal surgery.
Harry and Meghan convinced 'royals were against them' after New Year photo snubSpeaking from her garden, the mum said: "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery.
"It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful. In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.
This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.
"As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, Support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.
"We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery. At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone."
