Police Academy cast updates as the film marks its 40th anniversary

A classic movie turned 40!

Police Academy premiered on March 23, 1984 and for some, their favourite comedy film is 40 years old. The film is about "a group of good-hearted, but incompetent misfits" who enter the police academy and their instructors do not put up with their pranks, according to IMDb.

The film was produced by The Ladd Company and grossed $8.5 million in its opening weekend. The film also grossed more than $149 million worldwide, with a budget of $4.5 million. Police Academy became such a success that six other sequels were made in the franchise.

Steve Guttenberg

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1958, Steven Guttenberg is an actor, producer and director. He made his acting debut in The Boys From Brazil with Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck in 1978. He played Cadet Carey Mahoney in Police Academy and its sequels. Steve has also starred in other films like Short Circuit, Cocoon and 3 Men and a Baby.

In the 1990s, Steve starred in comedy and family films like The Big Green, Home for the Holidays and It Takes Two. He later won a role in cult favorite TV series Veronica Mars in the 2000s. Steve posts a lot of motivational content on his social media. He recently paid tribute to the Police Academy's 40th anniversary with a carousel of pictures.

Kim Cattrall is a Golden Globe-winning actress and Emmy Award nominee. Born in Liverpool in 1956, Kim made her film debut in Rosebud in 1975 and went to star in Jack Lemmon's Oscar-nominated film Tribute in 1980. She played Cadet Karen Thompson in Police Academy but did not appear in the sequels. Since, she has starred in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in 1991, Ice Princess in 2005 and Glamorous in 2023.

Kim had been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards and won the 2002 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Samantha Jones in the 1998 HBO series, Sex and the City. The show ran for six seasons and ended in the spring of 2004. She starred with fellow costars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. She made a quick cameo in the season 2 finale of And Just Like That…., a Sex and the City spinoff, in 2023. She also has appeared on How I Met Your Father, the How I Met Your Mother spinoff series.

G.W. Bailey was born in Port Arthur, Texas and began his acting career in the 1970s. He played Lt. Thaddeus Harris in Police Academy and its sequels. Before the film, he also played as Staff Sergeant Luther Rizzo in the television series M*A*S*H from 1970 to 1983. He also played Captain Felix Maxwell in Mannequin in 1987, Detective Lieutenant Louie Provenza on TNT's television crime drama The Closer and its spinoff Major Crimes, from 2005 to 2018.

His most recent role was on Stargirl in 2022.

She has appeared on many shows like, Murder, She Wrote, The Dukes of Hazzard and Halloween. She has also done voice work for the Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Leslie sand the National Anthem at Super Bowl XVII and starred in Broadway musicals.

David Graf

David Graf played Cadet Eugene Tackleberry in Police Academy and its sequels

Born Paul David Graf, David was best known for his role as Cadet Eugene Tackleberry in Police Academy. His character became one of the franchise's most recognizable as his character always wanted to be part of the police force.

Graf made his first television appearance as a contestant on the game show The $20,000 Pyramid in December 1979 and teamed with actress Patty Duke. He would appear on other versions of the show as a celebrity contestant. He alsoappeared on popular television shows like M*A*S*H, The Dukes of Hazzard, Airwolf, Hardcastle and McCormick and The A-Team.
