A COUPLE were blown away by an incredible discovery 27ft beneath their extension which added thousands of pounds to their property.

Victoria and Andrew Ellington purchased a cute little cottage on the seafront during lockdown in 2020.

When the pair decided they want to flip it and give the property a bit of a makeover, they were not expecting what they would be met with.

Shortly after works begun to dig up the foundation and extend Blue Cottage, Victoria got a call from husband Andrew.

Shockingly, the soil was uncontrollably slipping and to 40-year-old Andrew's surprise, a well was unearthed.

Around 27 feet deep, the Ellingtons were so "blown away" by the discovery they decided to keep it and even make money off of it.

The pair are now letting out the humble abode to holidaymakers - raking in the cash.

Mum-of-two Victoria, 36, told TeesideLive: "It was just a bit of a project, that was it really.

"We are holiday letting it now, but I don't think we knew what to do with it originally.

"He just sent me a photo and said: 'Oh my god, have you seen this?' It was probably from then that we started the holiday let idea."

Victoria and Andrew have since put down walk-on glass over the top and filled the well with lights to make it a nice feature.

The cottage's garden, which was completely finished this month, also includes a wood burner, decked out patio with furniture and a hot tub.

Photographs have captured the home's dramatic transformation, with the well now a star feature.

Victoria added: "The well makes it a bit different. Even seeing it in a picture doesn't do it justice.

"When I saw it I was totally blown away and every time I see it I just totally love it!"

You can now have a stay at the holiday cottage, which is "perfectly positioned with the sea on your doorstep" and renovated to a "luxurious standard".

Other features of the site include a wood burner, smart TV, and even an enclosed back garden decked out with a patio, furniture, and a hot tub for four people.
