The gulf between warring brothers Prince William and Prince Harry and their wives has never been greater - and it seems Meghan Markle was aware of the many differences between the two couples right from the very start.
In February 2018, the former 'Fab Four' appeared together at the Royal Foundation Forum. At the time, Princess Kate was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis, while Meghan was preparing for her wedding to Harry three months later.
It was Meghan's most high-profile royal outing to date. And as the two couples sat together on the stage, she was asked what it was like working with Kate, Harry and William.
"Thank goodness it's such differing personalities and that everyone's very communicative, because that's how you can really see bigger change," she said, acknowledging their contrasting personas.
"If everyone's thinking the same way, how are you going to push the envelope? You know, how are you really going to break through in a different sort of mindset? Changing mindsets and all of that is part of this communication that we have constantly. So, I think it's part of the reason we've had so much success with Heads Together and whatever we end up working on moving forward."
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekMeghan's appearance was not without controversy. She used the platform to reaffirm her working dedication to women's causes and charities - but her words reportedly upset the foundation's executives and created an awkward atmosphere amongst the four, with Prince Harry forced to step in.
Meghan was outlining the important work she hoped to get involved with in empowering women - until Harry intervened with a joke.
The Duchess told the audience: "With so many campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp, there's no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them.
"You'll often hear people say, 'Well you're helping people find their voice' and I fundamentally disagree with that, because women don't need to find a voice. They have a voice, they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen."
Addressing the incident in his book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors', author Tom Bower wrote: "While Meghan spoke, Harry spotted William's rictus grin... 'Wedding first', Harry whispered loudly."
While the four all laughed at Prince Harry's comment, the author believes it was Harry's way of reminding his fiancée to not get ahead of herself. "'We can multi-task,' Meghan replied to the unexpected interruption."
Bower argues that while the royals are patrons of the Foundation, they have limited influence on its direct activities. "That power was exercised by the Foundation's executives, an unimpressive group criticised for ineptly moving the royals around like chess pieces," the author wrote.
"While William, Kate and Harry had become accustomed to their motley behaviour, Meghan's arrival as a natural recruit for the Foundation's philanthropic work disturbed the rhythm of the executives' habits. Her feminism also upset their ingrained conservatism."
