The Duke and Duchess are seemingly embarking on a royal tour of their own, which comes as Prince Harry will return to the UK for an Invictus Games event in May, with he and his wife then set to visit Nigeria shortly after.

The Duke of Sussex, who stepped back from the Royal Family alongside his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, was recently confirmed to be attending the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, on Wednesday, May 8. The event is taking place in order to mark the 10th anniversary of the games that the Duke founded in 2014, with Harry due to make a speech at the gathering.

Prince Harry, 39, will fly back to his homeland of the United Kingdom in a matter of days for the event, without his wife accompanying him, it has been confirmed. After the Invictus Games event in London, Harry and Meghan are set to fly to Nigeria for a tour of the country in West Africa, and for meetings about the games.

The couple will soon jet to Nigeria after they were invited by the West African country’s chief of defence staff, who met Harry in Germany last September at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf. It will be their first visit to Nigeria as a couple.

Speaking to MailOnline, royal expert and author Tom Bower said that the couple are "playing the royal card", adding how he believes "the trip will be financed by the Nigerian government, and noting: "Their motives, as members of the Commonwealth, remain obscure."

Meanwhile, royal author Phil Dampier said that the couple are seemingly trying to embark on their own unofficial royal tour. He told the paper: "They are in effect trying to set up a rival court, their own royal roadshow, and I think people can see through it.

"They heavily criticised the monarchy and the Commonwealth in their Netflix shows and Harry's book Spare, yet they are happy to be invited simply because of their royal connections."
