Fulham have been punished by the Premier League for breaching registration rules following the transfer of Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool.

The Cottagers have been slapped with a £75,000 fine and handed a suspended six-month ban from registering any academy players currently or previously registered with another club.

Carvalho, 21, who joined Fulham from Balham Blazers in December 2014, left the club at the end of his contract following their promotion from the Championship in 2022 to join Liverpool.

A club statement read: "The Premier League and Fulham FC have entered into a sanction agreement following the club’s accepted breaches of the Premier League Rules in relation to player registrations.

"The club will face a six-month ban (suspended for one year) from registering any academy players currently or previously registered with another club and will pay a £75,000 fine. The suspended registrations ban commenced on 15 April 2024." It added: "As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanction agreement has been ratified by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel."

The announcement is part of the sanction agreement with the Premier League over settlement payments for Carvalho that were believed to have breached the rules.

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Carvalho in May 2022 but he did not have the desired impact during his maiden campaign at Anfield. The Portugal Under 21 international started just four Premier League matches and was restricted to just 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Carvalho was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig at the start of this campaign to get regular game time but struggled for form in the Bundesliga. The youngster was recalled to Liverpool in January, before going on loan once again, this time to Championship promotion chasers Hull.

Successful in his last stint in the second tier with Fulham, Carvalho has impressed at the Tigers. He has scored nine goals and added two assists in 19 appearances and is spearheading their play-off push.

Hull boss Liam Rosenior praised the attacker last month. He said: "His mentality is humble. He wants to work. I have to drag him off the training pitch every day.

"I walked into our old dressing room yesterday afternoon, he's cleaning his boots in the sink. He's just so humble, and he's going to have a great career because he's got the right mentality."
