Gary Glitter could be set to lose a chunk of his multi-million-pound fortune as a woman he sexually abused when she was 12 is suing him for compensation.

The case against the glam rock singer, 79, will return to the High Court today - however the paedophile didn't attend the previous hearing and has failed to engage with the claim in any way. It comes after the Parole Board rejected Glitter's bid to be freed from jail last month.

Barrister Jonathan Metze representing the anonymous victim, known as MXC, told the court: "My client raises these damages as a result of serious sexual assaults committed by the defendant at the time when the claimant was a minor and the defendant was an adult. This abuse was of the most serious kind and it has had a profound and long lasting consequences for my client ever since."

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was put behind bars for 16 years in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980. His sentence doesn't expire until February 2031, with the former singer currently held at HMP Risley in Cheshire.

The disgraced star did have a brief taste of freedom in February last year, when he was automatically released from HMP The Verne - a low-security prison in Portland, Dorset, after serving half of his fixed-term determinate sentence. But less than six weeks after walking free, sick Glitter was put back in jail after for breaching his licence conditions by allegedly viewing downloaded images of children.

He was escorted back to jail on March 13, 2023, from his secluded bail hostel after a probe into his use of a smartphone and the Dark Web. It followed revelations that Glitter was using a smartphone and was recorded saying he wanted to find "the Onion".

The term is slang for the seedy Dark Web, used by paedophiles as it is hard to monitor or trace users. A source said: "Glitter hasn't left the hostel since he was released - he's even had other convicts do his shopping for him. But now he's been sent back to prison for breaching his licence it's clear he was never sorry for his crimes."

Footage said to have been obtained from a fellow inmate showed him looking 'gaunt' and with a hearing aid. He could be heard saying: "Shall I get rid of this DuckDuck?" and a companion replies: "Yeah, I wouldn't bother using that." Glitter responds: "So what do I do next? Let's try and find this Onion."

The hostel was in Hampshire and reportedly surrounded by as many as 10 schools. At the time, an angry parent shared his concerns about their new neighbour. Dad Jonathan Wilson said: "Our children play in the woods which back onto their property, and we had to tell our kids like, don't talk to them, don't go near anyone there. Personally, I don't like those sort of people full stop, the fact they’re slap bang in the middle of where we live. Talk about taking the p*** out of society. This is enemy number one, and they've released them into the community."

Just days after he was put back inside, it was revealed that Glitter was given a £15k knee operation on the NHS while serving his prison sentence. The perverted former musician was understood to have been treated at Dorset County Hospital in November 2022, despite hundreds of patients currently on waiting lists for surgery.

The Sun reported that he spent five nights at the hospital, where he "seemed to revel in the attention". A source said: "While he was there, Glitter was very chatty and cheerful - and over-friendly. He asked quite a lot of questions about the staff, especially the younger female ones.

"He took a shine to one young, female nurse who was quite attractive and it made her feel sick. He also spoke quite a lot about going abroad, and said what a great time he had in Cambodia and Vietnam. There was no shred of remorse about what he had done."

Glitter was jailed in the late 1990s for possessing thousands of child abuse images. In 2002 he was expelled from Cambodia amid reports of sex crime allegations and in March 2006 he was convicted of sexually abusing two girls, aged 10 and 11, in Vietnam, and spent two-and-a-half years in jail.

The offences for which he was jailed in 2015 came to light as part of Operation Yewtree, the Metropolitan Police investigation launched in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal. Earlier this year, Glitter was accused of showing a "total lack of remorse" towards his victims by lawyers representing a woman he abused when she was 12 years old and who is now suing him.

If Glitter serves his time in full, he would be aged 86 when he is released.
