The Crown's Josh O'Connor, who played King Charles in the Netflix series, has reached out to Kate Middleton

The Crown star, Josh O'Connor, has shared his reaction to Kate Middleton 's cancer diagnosis as Queen Camilla also broke her silence today.

In a statement which sent shockwaves through the world, the future Queen of England, 42, revealed she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy following her abdominal surgery in January after rumours about her whereabouts had reached fever pitch. Following the sad news on Friday, stars from film, politics and sports have all sent their well wishes to the mum-of-three. And now Netflix star, Josh, 33, who plays King Charles in The Crown, has reached out too.

Speaking at the premiere of his new film Challengers in Sydney, Australia, with co-stars Zendaya and Mike Faist, the actor said he "always feels so sorry" for the royal family 'having to make public statements at a time like this'. He explained: "I know it's part of their job, but they're born into it. And the way everyone was talking about Kate, I found really sad. But I just hope she's all right, and everyone's thinking of her and sending her good wishes."

Josh's kind words come after Queen Camilla made a rare comment about Kate's health while out visiting Shrewsbury today. Holding a hand-drawn sign, which read 'Send Love to Kate' she said she knows the Princess of Wales is "thrilled by all the kind wishes and support".

Kate's cancer announcement followed weeks of cruel speculation on platforms including X, Instagram and TikTok, where trolls shared mocking posts and memes about her whereabouts. Her shocking health update sparked grovelling apologies from the likes of actress Blake Lively, who expressed sorrow for ill-judged remarks she had made online.

The Mean Girl star was one of the first to speak out as she admitted she was 'mortified' for taking aim at Kate's photoshop controversy while plugging her new drinks range. She initially posted: "I’m so excited to share this new photo I just took today to announce our 4 new @bettybuzz & @bettybooze products! Now you know why I’ve been MIA."

However, after the princess' sad news was made public, Blake returned to social media to say sorry. Taking to Instagram she penned: 'I'm sure no-one cares today but I feel I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the 'photoshop fails' frenzy and, oh, man, that post has me mortified today."

Elsewhere, Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code who collaborated with Meghan Markle for a campaign to change the perception of mothers on TV, said she felt 'disgusted' with herself for joining in with speculation about Kate.

Meanwhile, Kerry Katona said she 'held her hands up' as she admitted her part in stirring various conspiracy theories. Lamenting her choices, she said: "I think I was one of them as well. I just feel like we've all gone down this rabbit hole and I got sucked in. I'm no better than the next person."
