Thomas Muller joked that rival Aurelien Tchouameni was trying to get insight into Bayern Munich's tactics for their Champions League second leg against Real Madrid

Bayern came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their semi-final at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night. Two goals in five minutes from Leroy Sane and Harry Kane put them in front after Vinicius Junior's opener for Madrid, only for the Brazilian to score his second of the game from the penalty spot.

Despite failing to win the Bundesliga for the first time in more than a decade, Bayern have lost just once across 11 fixtures in Europe this term. Additionally, in Thomas Tuchel, they have a manager who won at the Bernabeu with Chelsea in 2022 - even though that was part of an aggregate defeat.

Muller is one of the only survivors from the last time Bayern beat Madrid in Europe, at the same stage in 2012. Tchouameni was still in school at that point, but the German veteran diffused the French international's surprise appearance in his post-match interview.

"Tchouameni's listening to the tactics for the next game," Muller joked, moments after beginning to speak to CBS Sports. His words drew laughted from the panel of pundits, and he then briefly brought the Madrid midfielder into shot before telling the panel Tchouameni would be back later.

Muller was speaking after his 150th appearance in the Champions League, and sits third on the all-time list for the competition behind Iker Casillas and Xavi. "It's not bad," he said when informed of the fact. "You have to sleep well, eat well, to reach this".

"I felt quite good but I am not satisfied with this draw. But that's Real Madrid - you know it, you saw it, you saw it twice against [Manchester] City in the last years and you see it every game, so you have to be careful every minute".

Bayern boss Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, eliminating Real Madrid in the semi-finals along the way. This will be his last chance to win the competition with his current side, though, with Bayern poised to make a change in the dugout this summer.

Austria manager Ralf Rangnick is among the contenders for the post, with Bayern president Herbert Hainer confirming talks were progressing with the 65-year-old. "We are in good talks with Ralf but we have to wait a few more days," Hainer told AZ Munich. "He is an excellent expert on the football scene. If it happens, he's a very good choice."

Rangnick, who is preparing for Euro 2024 with Austria, insisted money wasn't a factor in his next decision. "That doesn't matter to me at all," he insisted.

"For me it's about other things: can I make a difference? Is there a chance of developing a team and being successful? My focus is on the Austrian national team. We are completely focused on the European Championship."
