While dental receptionists are not medical staff, they can help sell dental services and are essential to patient satisfaction.

With 35,000 registered dentists nationally and 85 per cent working in private practices, becoming a dental receptionist provides a stable career with excellent prospects.

What is the average salary for a dental receptionist? 

Depending on the practice and what type of treatments it specialises in, pay can range from £22,000 to over £40,000.

The average salary for an experienced dental receptionist is £32,000.

What qualifications will I need? 

There are no set qualifications but many practices will apply their minimum standards for applicants, such as GCSE passes in maths and English.

Like any reception role, you will need to have a good phone manner and customer service skills, plus be able to manage a diary efficiently and take payments. 

Some practices use dedicated dental software but you will be given training if you are new to it.

What personal qualities will I need as a dental receptionist? 

Many patients find dental work stressful so you will need to be able to empathise with customers and calm them when stressed.
