A homeowner and two occupiers of another property have handed a court bill of nearly £1,800 after failing to deal with household waste correctly, it has been reported.
The action was taken by Hull City Council’s environmental enforcement officers after members of the public complained about the waste. Now, the council has urged people to keep their surroundings clean so they don't find themselves in a similar situation.
The prosecutions in March were brought by the council under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Ademi Holdings Limited, of Princes Road, Hull, who failed to attend Hull Magistrates’ Court, were convicted in their absence of an offence, and were instructed to pay a £440 fine, £550 costs and a £176 surcharge.
In another case, Darren Alexander Webber and Sophie Burden, of Ceylon Street, Hull, who failed to appear before Hull Magistrates, were both convicted in their absence of an offence and were instructed to pay fines and costs totalling £798 - £399 each. Doug Sharp, head of street cleansing and waste management at Hull City Council, said: “As a council, we will always listen and respond to complaints from the public about environmental crimes.
"Occupiers and property owners must take responsibility for any waste on their land as it can blight the neighbourhood, is unfair on other residents and the council will ensure there are consequences for failing to do so.”
