A GREEN Party local election candidate had a finger bitten off by a dog while posting a campaign leaflet.

Danica Priest was pushing the flyer through a letterbox when the animal inside the house went for her right hand.

She was taken to hospital — and the voter came home to find the end of an index finger on the doormat.

The digit was also taken to the hospital but surgeons said it would be impossible to reattach it.

The would-be councillor, 37, was canvassing in Bristol’s Filwood ward ahead of the elections on May 2.

She said: “I was leafleting and a dog bit off the tip of my finger through the letterbox.

“So the owner came home to find a ‘Vote for Danica’ leaflet plus my finger and blood.

“They were lovely and returned my finger to hospital but sadly the surgeon just confirmed they can’t save it.”

US-born Danica added: “I haven’t seen it since it happened because I went into shock but I’ve been told the tip is gone, up to the first joint.

“It’s definitely a good warning for other leafletters and dog owners.”

She is on painkillers and might have reconstructive surgery.

Danica thanked well-wishers for their support.

“Thanks for all the kind words everyone I really appreciate it,” she said.

“Looks like it’s going to be a long night at the hospital but I’m doing ok.

"The painkillers are working well but the bleeding hasn’t stopped yet so I’m still very bloody,” she added.
