You know that phrase 'slept like a baby'? I can't relate, especially not during the summer months. For a multitude of reasons, as soon as the summer months approach, my sleep quality takes a nosedive, and I'm forever looking for a solution to the problem.
Since some of my sleep problems come from an inability to get comfortable in clammy weather, I've tried just about every fan going to make my room cool enough to sleep with a light duvet on (I simply cannot get cosy under a sad little sheet), but either the noise of them keeps me awake or they just blow the hot air around the room. I also have the fun little addition of being a hayfever sufferer and lying on my bed at nighttime leaves me feeling congested. My partner is a lucky man, I know. Though, he actually sleeps worse than me in the heat.
This year, I've decided I'm willing to blow the budget in a bid to get a good night's sleep, so I've got my hands on what I'm told is the gold standard of fans: . Yes, it's a little pricey, but I can girl maths the cost by working it out as a daily cost – a perfectly reasonable £1.50. Who wouldn't be okay with paying less than the cost of a Pret Americano each day to sleep like a baby?
The Purifier HEPA Cool tech
In the quest for cleaner air, Dyson's fan rivals all other models on the market. This state-of-the-art purifier not only detects but also destroys formaldehyde (produced from building materials, smoking, household products and fuel-burning appliances like gas stoves), ensuring your bedroom stays free of this harmful pollutant. Equipped with a precise solid-state formaldehyde sensor and a unique catalytic filter, it works tirelessly to purify the air.
But the innovation doesn't stop there. The fan also features HEPA H13 and activated carbon filters, which capture dust, allergens, gases, and other ultrafine pollutants, making it a well-rounded solution for cleaner air – and ideal for hayfever sufferers. Adding to its impressive functionality, Dyson’s powerful Air Multiplier™ technology ensures that purified air is effectively circulated throughout the entire room, offering consistent and thorough air purification.

Zoe's verdict
Setting the fan up was simple because I instructed my partner to do it. It took him the best part of 10 minutes and I oversaw the process. We did have a slight issue getting the filter caps to click into place, and one side still doesn't feel very secure. I'll need to go back over some online video instructions to see if we're going wrong somewhere, but the fan is currently working fine as it stands.
Once it was up and running, I used the handy remote control to try out the settings. I like that the fan can be placed on a timer and also how it has a special nighttime mode where the fan will cleverly monitor and respond to changes in air quality, but only using its quietest settings –and with its LCD screen dimmed. Mostly I turn the setting straight to auto mode, which means your machine will pause when the target air quality has been reached, switching on again when the air quality levels drop. All very smart and handy for someone like me who doesn't get much enjoyment out of reading user manuals.
I always like a fan to be directed right at me when I sleep, but if you don't you can hit a button to make the airflow go out the back of the unit. You can also control the oscillation, temperature and speed of airflow, meaning you're getting the exact level of cool you want.
I tested the fan for a full week before putting my review out because I would never recommend a product this pricey without being sure it's worth someone else buying. I can honestly say I do think it's worth the money because I slept so much better the first night I used it, and I know this because my watch tracks my sleep quality. After the second and third nights, I realised it wasn't just a one-off because I was still sleeping through the night without waking up. The only time I have felt a little unrested this past week is when my partner put the unit on a one-hour timer and I had to get up to find the remote in a bid to bring back the cool.
One thing I haven't done yet is set up the fan on the MyDyson app on my phone, but I'll be doing that this weekend so I can report back on that soon.
Have I come across any downsides? I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't realise the filters would need replacing. It's meant to be quick and easy, and your machine will tell you when it needs to be done (around every 12 months), but it's still an extra expense that may prove tricky for some people. Other than that, no. It's by far my favourite fan and purifier I've ever used.
