The terrifying moment when a plane cabin was filled with smoke sparking an emergency landing has been captured on video.
The incident happened on a packed flight after an iPad charger is thought to have exploded in an overhead locker. The overpowering fumes which filled the inside of the aircraft led to a three-hour delay for passengers. A video clip shows the moment in smoke filled the cabin. It forced several passengers to make their way to the back of the plane to avoid inhaling the fumes.
Flight number RW602 left from the Philippine island of Boracay bound for Shanghai in China. But the pilot had to carry out an emergency landing at Hong Kong International Airport. After landing in Hong Kong, the passengers were evacuated while airport workers cleaned and ventilated the cabin, a process which is reported to have taken around an hour.
Passengers were then allowed back on board before continuing on their journey to Shanghai. They arrived at their destination at around 12.30am, three hours later than scheduled. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Power chargers are prohibited from being placed in overhead lockers. The power bank was reportedly owned by a passenger for charging their iPad. It remains unclear what caused the charger to explode.

They also expressed their gratitude to emergency workers at Hong Kong International Airport for cleaning up the plane in a timely fashion. An investigation is underway to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The Mirror reported a similar incident in 2018 when passengers used bottles of water to douse a fire that broke out on a crowded plane when a portable power unit suddenly “exploded”. Footage captured on board the Russian aircraft showed flames and smoke engulfing a section of the economy class cabin.
Passengers shouted at others to pass them water in a desperate bid to put out the blaze. Amid the panic a crew member used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire on board the Airbus A320.
Travellers reportedly used emergency slides as the Aeroflot plane was evacuated on the tarmac at Volgograd's airport. The blaze broke out shortly after the plane had landed on a flight from Moscow. A video showed passengers around the fire seemingly calm and stoical during the incident.
But other reports say there was panic on the aircraft and all passengers were evacuated from the flight. A crew member was reportedly able to put out the fire using fire extinguisher and a bottle of water to put out the flames on burning seats at the busy airport in Volgograd.
