Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney intend to increase the capacity of the Racecourse Ground from 12,600 to approximately 45,000 to 55,000 seats.

The ownership duo recently shared updates on their ambitious stadium vision and the plans to make it come to fruition. If approved and completed, the Racecourse Ground could have higher capacities than most Premier League sides - including Newcastle's St. James' Park (52,257), Chelsea's Stamford Bridge (40,173), and Aston Villa's Villa Park (42,530).

"We have a plan in place right now that would eventually work from stand to stand," McElhenney told the Collider podcast. "So eventually, you get all four sides, and it's hard to say for sure, but we think we could get between 45,000 and 55,000 people in there."

He added: "It's definitely a comedic point of consternation in the show, how often we're running up against bureaucracy. Of course, safety concerns and things like that and regulations are in place for a reason. But then there's some things that seem to be hurdles for hurdles' sake, and it's just a lot harder to build in the U.K. than I've found almost anywhere else in the world.

"The thick buttress of bureaucracy is the biggest problem. I live in New York, and Rob lives in LA, where construction is very different in that they will charge you $10 for every dollar you spend," he continued. But in Wales, there really is a lot of red tape, and it's just about ticking every box and ensuring every single bureaucrat is happy."

Following the expansion, the venue would surpass Cardiff City Stadium as the largest football stadium in Wales, which currently accommodates 33,216 seated spectators. The Principality Stadium, formerly the Millennium Stadium, remains the country's national arena, with a seating capacity of 73,931 for rugby matches and expanding to 78,000 for major boxing events. In 2017, it hosted Anthony Joshua's TKO victory over Carlos Takam.

Outside of costly stadium renovations, Wrexham has seen back-to-back promotions under the leadership of its new owners since its takeover in November 2020. Most recently, the club secured a place in League One after a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers.

The club's success has been closely followed in the TV series "Welcome to Wrexham," which has garnered a massive following worldwide. The show premiered in 2022 on FX and won two Critics' Choice Television Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards for cinematography, production, and sound editing.

Two years into Reynolds and McElhenney's ownership tenure, Wrexham has witnessed positive trends across various fronts, including match results, shirt sales, social media engagement, and ticket purchases. The club reported a surge of 921.23 percent in its social media following last year.

TikTok assumed sponsorship of the club's shirts through a two-year agreement signed in June 2021. On the day of the deal, Wrexham debuted on TikTok, swiftly amassing 100k followers within seven months. The club boasts over 1.5 million followers on the platform, with accumulated likes surpassing 20.1 million.
