YOU want to look nice and feel good as a wedding guest, but not outdo the bride.

So choosing the perfect outfit for a wedding can be tricky.

But one guest has been criticised for turning up in a floor-length sparkly gown and a floral headpiece.

And many who saw the photo were left in disbelief when they realised she wasn’t the one getting married.

In Reddit's Wedding Shaming forum, another guest posted a picture of the woman.

Alongside the photo, the caption writes: "No, no that's not the bride..."

The partygoer could be seen in a floor-skimming mermaid-shaped dress with thick straps.

The figure-hugging outfit caused quite a stir, not least because she wore it with a cream-coloured floral hair clip.

Fellow Redditors quickly jumped in with their thoughts on the guest's attire.

One said: "It's not even like it's a fun party dress, that is a GOWN. Girl, no."

Another said: "Ugh. For the sake of poetic justice, I hope that dress felt as uncomfortable as it looked."

A third said: "Is she also wearing some kind of headpiece? Or is that from the person behind her, I can't tell.

"I'm really shocked by how often people seem to pull this stunt in real life.

"I guess there's a lot of people out there who just can't take not being the centre of attention."

Why can't you wear white to a wedding?

For brides in many cultures, the colour white holds a special meaning.

Anthony Navarro, Creative Director of Liven It Up Events explained: "That colour is reserved for the bride to wear at the wedding.

"It is an unsaid rule that you should not wear white."

Are there any exceptions?

There are some instances when wearing white to a wedding might be okay.

For example, couples may ask all guests to wear white for a themed party.

Such requests will be made clear on the wedding invitation and the couple's wedding website.

Unless all-white outfits are explicitly required for the wedding day, wearing a white outfit or one that even features a white pattern is a bad idea, as doing so can appear rude or disrespectful to the couple.
