Whether you never want to worry about misplacing your car keys or losing your luggage on the airport carousel, Bluetooth trackers are becoming the go-to devices to help track your personal possessions. And the brand I rated as the best to buy after tracking six suitcases on a group trip to France, is a fraction of the price at Amazon.

Travelling with a large group of friends I wanted to make sure all of our cases came out the other end, and if they didn't, get an exact idea of where they had been lost. So, I tested Apple AirTags and a leading rival, Tile Tag, to see which tracker is the best for travelling.

Apple's pack of four AirTags came out on top, winning against the slimmer Tile tracker for better notifications, tracking, and no in-app purchases once you've bought the device. Now, the exact same ones I used are on offer at Amazon.

The Prime retailer has cut the price of the four-pack from £119 to £94, working out at £23.50 per AirTag - for context, you pay £29 at John Lewis for an individual pack. But, why are they worth spending the money on, compared to the much cheaper £15.99 Tile Tag?

"Thanks to its sleek in-app experiences, precise notifications and the ability to find it on another Apple device (if you share the same Apple ID that is). Apple users may already be well aware of the ‘Find My’ app and the AirTag is tracked here very similarly if you were to look for a lost phone on the ‘Find My iPhone’ days.

"Tile also has an app but instead of opening it up and seeing the location of the tracker straight away (like with the AirTag) you have to click ‘location history", as I said in my review. Having used both apps in the stress of an airport, Apple's software was far easier to use....and that's what you'd want in an event if you had lost say a handbag or car keys.

"Another huge factor is price. Once you’ve paid for a pack or individual AirTag you won’t face any other costs; free app and no cost to look at the history. Tile charges an extra £2.99 a month or £29.99 a year for features which can be done for free on the AirTag.

Apple's trackable gadgets may be more expensive to start with (only £10 more if buying an individual pack) but shoppers can guarantee they won't be asked to pay more when tracking or looking for notifications.

Samsung also does its own version of the tracker with its £34 Galaxy Tag, while newer brand Chipolo has just launched a product - a trackable wallet finder. Unlike the keychain trackers, this is specifically designed to slip into your purse and hide among your debit and credit cards - if you lose it you'll have its location to hand.
