New Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany will be getting paid nearly £2.5million more than predecessors Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick.

The Belgian has been appointed the new manager at the German club - a decision that came as a surprise to many. Kompany has presided over Burnley's relegation with the Clarets getting just 24 points in the Premier League. Prior to that the 38-year-old had led them to the Championship title.

Bayern missed several of their top targets, Xabi Alonso among them, before settling on Kompany, who is due to land a similar wage to Thomas Tuchel following his exit from the Allianz Arena.

Sky Germany report that the former Manchester City player could get paid up to £7.67m (€9m) gross per year with add-ons included. Nagelsman and Flick both had annual earnings of around £5.11m.

Nagelsmann before joining Bayern had a stellar CV despite his tender age. The now Germany boss had taken unfancied outfits Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig into the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals with the latter back in 2020. Flick meanwhile had served as Germany's assistant to Joachim Low when they won the World Cup in 2014.

At Kompany's first press conference he said: "You mentioned one club but just so you understand how am - I'm a very private person - I was actually quite fortunate to have a lot of interest from a number of other clubs as well. But I never went looking for anything. I wasn't interested in anything. I was happy to meet people and I met good people."

Bayern had held discussions over a compensation package with Burnley director Alan Pace and, according to the BBC, that fee is said to be around £10.2m.

Kompany will arrive at Bayern off the back of their first trophyless season is over a decade. The Bavarians saw Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title whilst they endured an early exit from the German Cup. Their Champions League journey was ended in the semi-finals.

The Belgian has said: "My mentality is that I never haven't ever worked for a top club in my head. A top club is the environment you create. It's the mentality you have towards your job in good and bad times, that's what defines working at the top level. It already feels like home."
