Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan are still ‘soulmates’ after 37 years together as sweet a gesture signals ‘being in a newer relationship’ according to body language expert.

The pair looked very loved up in recent photos after more than three decades together and body language expert Darren Stanton has shared how the pair have kept their spark alive for nearly forty years.

The pair were recently seen holding hands together in sweet snaps as they took a trip to a local haunt in Hampstead to mark their recent anniversary. Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, expert Darren revealed that unlike many other celeb couples, the pair ‘aren’t adverse to showing affection in public’ and instead, are very ‘happy and comfortable’ doing so.

He goes on to explain the ‘intimacy’ of their handhold, which sees Richard’s palm placed on top of his wife’s, which Darren says ‘is the kind of handhold you tend to see in new relationships’. Elsewhere, Darren notes that the level of affection the pair are showing, in what he labels ‘reciprocal liking’, is a ‘significant’ sign after being together for such a long time.

‌He says the photos offer a clear marker that the couple are ‘comfortable in their own skin’ and don’t feel the need to be ‘all over each other’. “These two have been a really strong couple for decades, and the photos really make that clear, certainly the hand holding. Richard has his palm on top of Judy’s - it’s not a mutual hand hold. Basically, although she’s the dominant person in the relationship, he’s taking the lead here and it’s quite a passionate hand hold.

"It’s not just a normal hand hold. When someone’s palm is on top, it’s more of a passionate, more intimate handhold - the kind of handhold you tend to see in newer relationships.”

The body language expert also claims that Richard and Judy are happier than ever before. “They’re celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary, and for them to be displaying what we call ‘reciprocal liking’, at this point in their relationship is really significant. You don’t tend to see many relationships, with this many miles on the clock, displaying these sorts of gestures.

"There’s a couple of shots where Judy looks quite glum but she’s not known for smiling all the time. In terms of body language, they’re still very much together as they always were, the interactions sitting at the table, being filmed, show that.”

“If two people have been in a relationship for that length of time, they don’t need to be all over each other and lovey dovey all the time. It’s also about each person being comfortable in their own skin, and that’s very much what Richard and Judy are. Even though they’re a powerful, former media couple, they’re still very happy to be seen out and about together. They’re not adverse to displaying affection in public, which many celebrity couples are. Richard and Judy are quite happy to be comfortable in their own skin, showing affection and I don’t see anything contradicting the fact that they are soulmates.”
