A CONTESTANT who appeared on The 1% Club has recalled feeling 'overwhelmed' by what happened after winning the show and walking away with a huge cash prize of £99k.

Daniel O'Halloran successfully answered the question only one percent of the nation supposedly know the answer to.

The 1% Club outings usually begin with 100 contestants, but gradually, the players are eliminated after incorrectly answering a series of questions that test their logical reasoning and mathematical skills.

In the final stage of the ITV quiz show, hosted by comedian Lee Mack, only one challenging question separates the winner from the £100K cash prize.

Last year, Daniel became the lucky winner of an eye-watering £99k after his mum- who is a big fan of the show-  signed him up without his knowledge.

Daniel said about his experience: "I was quite confident in getting to the latter stages of the show, but I never in my wildest dreams imagined taking home that much money.”

“I thought if I got to £10,000 with no money to fall back on, I'd take the £10,000 and wouldn't gamble," he told the Liverpool Echo.

The 24-year-old from Rock Ferry on the Wirral was asked to answer the question: "If you list all the numbers from 1 to 100 in order, 100 would be the 100th number, but what would be the 100th digit?"

The answer will be given at the end of this article.

When asked how he reacted to winning the show, Daniel expressed: "I lost control of my body. I was running around celebrating on stage in total shock.

“I never thought I'd be standing there on the show, let alone winning it."

Incredibly, the maths genius waited for the show to air on TV in 2023 before he announced the news.

He shared the special moment with his mum and loved ones.

Daniel explained: "It was very difficult there were some moments I nearly blurted it out, or my family would ask me, and I couldn't keep the smile on my face.

"When they were watching it, they couldn't believe I'd done it. It was the best thing to see.

"They were in total shock - they said some things you probably couldn't print in the paper! They couldn't believe I'd kept it secret."

On how he plans to spend the money, Daniel said: "I've got to be sensible, maybe look towards the house, pay the mortgage off. But I've got to enjoy it as well. I can't take this for granted."

During the episode that aired in May 2023, Daniel played it safe with £10,000, but he risked it all and went for the big £99,000 question.

As mentioned earlier, he was asked: "If you list all the numbers from 1 to 100 in order, 100 would be the 100th number, but what would be the 100th digit?"

Well, if you correctly answered 'five', like Daniel, then you have successfully joined the elite 1% percent Club.
