Daniel Sturridge insists he does not "have any concerns Liverpool will slip away" following the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp has left the club after nine years at the helm, with Arne Slot brought in from Feyenoord as his replacement. Liverpool have also made major changes to their backroom team, with Michael Edwards and Julian Ward both returning and Richard Hughes joining from Bournemouth to become their new sporting director.

And Sturridge is confident that the club's "amazing" backroom team, led by Edwards and FSG president Mike Gordon, have made the right move in appointing Slot. "He did unbelievable things," Sturridge told The Times when asked about Klopp's departure.

"I don't think those were the expectations when he arrived. The relationship he had with people was magnificent. He's going to be remembered as arguably the greatest Liverpool manager.

"Now the club is in a transitional period. New manager, players coming out of contract — it's just that kind of time. But the backroom team is amazing. I know the Mikes [Gordon and Edwards] well.

"I'm sure they've analysed the manager they've brought in and will know his style marries well with the current squad, and will have their eyes on players they want to sign too. I don't have any concerns Liverpool will slip away."

And Liverpool star Cody Gakpo, who played against Slot's Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar teams during his time at PSV Eindhoven, believes the Dutchman's style of play will suit the Reds perfectly.

"I have not spoken to him before… [but] I do know that he has always made it very difficult for us at PSV and is known as a very good trainer, of course," Gakpo told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

"I think so [his style will translate to the Premier League ], otherwise the club wouldn't have appointed him. If you talk about neat football and high pressure, with the latter being a very big characteristic of us under Jurgen Klopp, then that is also something we are certainly used to."
