The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson is thought to have made a 'thinly-veiled dig' at Meghan Markle after dishing out advice to princesses.

Prince Andrew's ex-wife has kept fans guessing about who she was aiming her jibe at after she made some intriguing comments on her podcast. The Duchess of York was advising princesses when she set tongues wagging she could have been referring to Meghan.

She said in a past podcast that no one wants to see a "grumpy princess," when she was talking about the advice she would give to her daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. However, the clip resurfaced just as Meghan was spotted looking forlorn when she was out and about after losing her Spotify deal last year.

Fergie revealed that she gave the words of wisdom to her girls as she handed out etiquette tips on her podcast, Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah. She said she always told her daughters to 'smile' when out in public. She added: "I always say to my girls: when you're out on the public stage, smile. And if you don't want to be polite, don't go on the public stage - because no-one wants to see a grumpy princess. You've heard me say that many times."

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and King Charles have been given a warning as she spoke about the need for "forgiveness". The Duchess of York opened up about life inside the Royal Family during an appearance at Cannes Film Festival. She spoke about the importance of supporting one another, as The Firm has been embroiled in a bitter feud for years.

Speaking with PEOPLE magazine at the 2024 amFar Gala, Sarah said: "I think the key to life is that we all support each other. And also forgiveness is a great thing. I think forgiveness of yourself and forgiveness of others." Royal expert Tom Quinn has suggested her comments were a "clear reference" to Harry's strained relationship with his father.

He said: "She made the remarks while being asked whether she had been supporting King Charles and Princess Kate as they receive treatment for cancer. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, royal author Tom Quinn said Fergie's comments were a "clear reference to Meghan and Harry’s ongoing feud with Prince William and King Charles".

He added: "But the Duchess [of York] has her own well-publicised family difficulties to deal with – she has never stopped trying to persuade the senior royals to rehabilitate her former husband Prince Andrew and when she talked about unity and the need for forgiveness, she no doubt also had her husband in mind.

The Duchess of York is only too well aware from her own life in the Royal family that anger and bitterness ultimately lead nowhere. She has always felt that Harry needs to pull himself together and try to forget about the past for the sake of the family. She feels Harry is just taking things too far."
