Bruce Willis' wife has given a heartfelt message about the impact his dementia has had on their lives.

Emma Heming Willis uploaded a video to her Instagram page as she chatted to her followers about the disease as she continued to promote awareness of Bruce's diagnosis. The actress was helping to share information on how her fans can help to get the Frontotemporal Dementia Awareness Week resolution recognised in their home state.

Emma shared how New York and California now recognise the week setting the precedent for other areas to follow and for campaigners to target their local senators in order to get action towards the needed change. As well as sharing an array of useful information and tips in the clip Emma made some candid confessions about her own family.

Speaking to the camera she said: "I have many reasons why I advocate. But one of them is that this a way for me and our family to be able to take our power back in this. FTD has a way of re-writing your whole life.

"But, by advocating for our family and for someone else's family I feel like that has really been the secret sauce. It has motivated me, and has made me feel better about this journey. So I'm excited for you to jump on this bandwagon. I'm sorry that you have to be on it, but so much good will come of it, I promise. So good luck. "

Emma uploaded the video with a caption that further highlighted her hopes of creating awareness around the crippling illness that Bruce is battling. She captioned the post: "Becoming a FTD advocate has brought some power and control back in my life where this disease just takes. Being able to use my voice for my family and to be of service to the next family is empowering and has made this journey bearable."

Emma continues to dedicate her time to caring for her husband Bruce as he struggles with his ongoing battle with dementia. The beloved Die Hard actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (better known as FTD) last spring. His health battle was first announced the year prior when his family revealed he was suffering from a language disorder called aphasia.

Patients that suffer from the condition can experience a number of symptoms including unusual behaviours, emotional problems, trouble communicating, difficulty with work, or difficulty with walking, according to The National Institute on Aging.
