Sofyan Amrabat's brother has added to Manchester United's Casemiro confusion by claiming he was fit for the FA Cup final, before quickly backtracking.
The Brazilian midfielder was initially named on the bench for the Red Devils’ 2-1 success at Wembley against Manchester City. Shortly before kick-off though, he was taken off of the teamsheet in place of defender Willy Kambwala.
It was then claimed in the aftermath that Casemiro requested not to play due to a slight injury issue. However, Sofyan Amrabat’s brother Nordin has weighed in and claimed that there was in fact no injury.
Speaking on Dutch TV, the former Watford star said: "You can't just take out Casemiro. But he did at the end, in the FA Cup final. He dropped out in the warm-up.
“But he was not injured. He saw that he was not going to start, then he thought: then I will sit in the stands. He was just fit. That was a choice.”
World Cup hero wants Man Utd move as doubts over Harry Maguire's future growDespite his claim, Amrabat has now performed a u-turn and said that he made the suggestion without any inside knowledge. Taking to social media in the aftermath, he added: “Today during an interview on television it was suggested that my brother only played in the cup final due to an injury to another player.
“My response to this was pure speculation and my only motivation was to defend my brother who was on the field due to his own merit and hard work. My words have been taken out of context, there was no ill intention whatsoever and to suggest another player chose not to play is wrong. I don’t know what happened on the day, so let’s move on from this non story.”
Sofyan Amrabat now faces an anxious wait to see if he has done enough to earn a permanent deal with Man United. Signed on-loan from Fiorentina last summer, he made 30 appearances in all competitions - 17 of those being starts.

The Red Devils have an option to sign him permanently. The midfielder has already claimed he will hold talks regarding his future with club chiefs.
As quoted by Ziggo Sport, he said: "Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option.
“Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. We are going to talk.
“Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens."
