A seaside town dubbed 'England's most beautiful' has been crowned the UK's top staycation spot for 2024.

As the weather begins to brighten, many are planning their holidays and you don't need to venture far in the UK to find a fascinating destination. Saltburn-by-the-Sea, commonly referred to as Saltburn, is a quiet seaside town in North Yorkshire, England which recently made headlines due to the popular psychological thriller film of the same name which came out last year.

But Saltburn is worth a visit for its own merits. Perched on cliffs above a golden sandy beach with views over the North Sea, it's a picture-perfect spot ideal for photography or leisurely walks. The town exudes Victorian charm and offers a unique way to reach the beach via the Saltburn Cliff Lift. Built in 1884, this water-powered funicular railway runs up and down the cliffs between the town and the beach.

Not only is it a historical landmark being the oldest water-powered funicular railway in the world, but it also provides passengers with stunning views of the surrounding area without the need for a strenuous cliffside walk, reports the Express. Another remarkable feature of Saltburn is its pier. Constructed in 1869 and having undergone numerous enhancements over the years, it's now one of the best spots to enjoy some fish and chips or ice cream while taking in the gorgeous scenery.

No trip to the seaside is complete without indulging in some fish and chips, and it's said that the best in town can be found at the Seaview Restaurant. This eatery not only serves up delicious food but also supports local fishermen who are part of the Responsible Fishing Scheme, helping to protect marine wildlife.

Saltburn Pier is a must-visit spot for wildlife enthusiasts, with dolphins, seals and even basking sharks spotted there on occasion. For those looking to explore, Saltburn has plenty to offer. One unique attraction is the Saltburn Miniature Railway, which runs from the beach through a woodland valley, offering stunning views of the town's natural beauty.

The Valley Gardens is an ideal spot for a picnic or a leisurely stroll, boasting colourful flower displays, ornamental ponds and scenic walking routes. If you're after a sweet treat, the Valley Garden Victorian Tearooms serve up a range of homemade cakes and ice cream during the summer months.

Every second Saturday, the local farmer's market opens its doors, selling everything from local crafts and artwork to tasty local produce. But remember to plan your visit to Saltburn in advance, as the town hosts a number of fun festivals throughout the year, including a Food Festival, Arts Festival, Folk and Music Festivals, and even a Surf Festival and Beer Festival.

Saltburn is making waves with its unique Victorian weekend, where the town steps back in time with folks donning period costumes, street performances, horse-drawn carriages, and vintage markets. It's a historical extravaganza not to be missed. The Sun has even crowned Saltburn as the top seaside destination for 2024, praising its tranquil atmosphere compared to its busier coastal neighbours.

Adding to its accolades, it's been voted one of the UK's most stunning places to visit this year and has snagged the title of "best town for a seaside staycation in 2024" from Simply Seaviews. With a treasure trove of activities and sights, Saltburn promises a delightful seaside getaway any time you drop by this charming and historic town.
