Bukayo Saka cooly converted the spot-kick by sending Travers the wrong way at the Emirates Stadium.

But fans were not impressed with the way Havertz won the decision.

Many took to social media to claim that the German "knew what he was doing".

It is suggested that the attacker left his foot low to initiate contact with the goalkeeper and get the decision.

One fan posted: "Few players are smart to get these decisions right in their favor.

"Havertz clearly knew what he was doing.

"Said this before. Title challenging three would get soft decisions in their favor most times.

"No ref has the guts to give the right decision here."

A second commented: "On what planet is this a penalty? Embarrassing."

A third wrote: "If this went against Arsenal you’d be screaming corruption."

A fourth said: "Instead of giving these as penalties, if we're serious about getting rid of simulation, this should be a yellow card for Havertz."

Another added: "Fair play Havertz, but he's played the game there. Deliberately drags his foot.

"VAR is a fucking joke not turning that round. What's the point in it?"

The match is a must-win for the Gunners if they want to win the Premier League.

They need to win all of their remaining games and for Manchester City to drop points.

Leandro Trossard double the lead for the hosts in the second half.

Arsenal then got away with a decision, as Bournemouth believed they had got back into the contest.

Antoine Semenyo fired in but the goal was disallowed as Dominic Solanke was harshly judged to have fouled David Raya moments before.

Declan Rice made sure of the result as he bagged Arsenal's third goal of the game in the 97th minute.
