Millions of UK residents are set to receive additional payments of up to £310 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) before the year ends.

Pensioners are expected to receive the majority of this cash, with Winter Fuel Payments typically made automatically to eligible households during November, December and January to assist with increased heating bills.

Age UK states that if you were born on or before September 22, 1958, you could receive up to £300 to help with your winter bills this year. The exact amount will depend on your age and whether other members of your household also qualify, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Eligibility requires you to have been living in the UK during the qualifying week (3-9 September, this year). Applications are still accepted from those living in care or nursing homes, although a smaller amount is usually granted.

In addition, state pensioners and anyone claiming certain benefits from DWP should also receive a bonus in December. This one-off Christmas payment of £10 typically arrives in bank accounts in December.

This money does not affect any other benefits you receive and will be paid directly into your bank account.
