The 79-year-old has a simple trick that she never skips as part of her nighttime routine, reports Byrdie.

Mirren told the publication that she used to be guilty of a common faux pas when wearing makeup.

"When I was young, I used to go to bed with my mascara on and everything, and in the morning [it] would be all down [my face]," she explained.

However, the English actress revealed that she has since learned her lesson.

"I never skip taking my makeup off at night," Mirren said.

"I take all my makeup off religiously at night and then religiously put it all on again in the morning."

Skincare experts at Dermalogica broke down the importance of removing makeup before bed.

They cited clogged pores and breakouts as one of the main reasons to avoid the beauty blunder.

"Dirt or makeup left in the pores will make them more noticeable and appear instantly larger," they explained.

The professionals added that your complexion will appear duller and older.

"Not taking your makeup off will age you because makeup mixed with dirt and pollution that builds on the skin can hinder its ability to successfully renew itself at night," they said.

According to the experts, your skin can also begin to look and feel dry if you fail to remove your makeup correctly.

"Leftover makeup residue can prevent the absorption of skincare products by creating a barrier between your skin and any products you are putting on top of it," they explained.

This neglect can lead to irritated skin and even increase the risk of eye infections.

"When left on the skin for long periods of time, these irritants can cause inflammation, irritation, and redness," the pros said.

They pointed out that most people tend to use makeup to cover up these inflammations, continuing the cycle.

AGING PROCESS

Mirren also shared her take on aging as a woman in the showbiz industry.

"My philosophy on aging is, it's going to happen," she explained.

"If you are incredibly lucky, you will get older, and it will be absolutely fine.

"And you will find that it's a part of your life, the way being young is a part of your life. Being old is a part of your life."
