Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was forced to break up a half-time spat between Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal during their 4-2 defeat at Liverpool.

With Spurs 2-0 down, Royal and Romero clashed as they were walking to the tunnel after the whistle was blown. Argentina international Romero could be seen remonstrating angrily towards Royal.

It appeared to be just a war of words but as the two defenders came closer together, Micky van de Ven watched on concerned. However, before the situation could escalate, Vicario came to the rescue and grabbed Romero, pulling him away from Royal and steering him off the pitch.

Reviewing the incident, Keane told Sky Sports: "I genuinely don’t mind that kind of behaviour, because it means you care about the game. But they should have that aggression in their defending and their play.

"Spurs have been very poor. I don’t mind it, but you have to bring that aggression to your general play, which we’ve not seen from Spurs."

Despite a bright start from Spurs, Mohamed Salah gave the Reds the lead in the 16th minute, heading home at the back post. Jurgen Klopp's side then asserted their control on the game and doubled their lead before half-time, with Andy Robertson tapping home Salah's saved effort.

Liverpool came out flying out of the blocks in the second period and added their third through Cody Gakpo, powering a header beyond Vicario. In the 59th minute, the Reds made it four as Harvey Elliott - named as the Player of the Match - capped off a fine performance by curling home from the edge of the box.

At that point, many were wondering how many Liverpool were going to be able to score, but Spurs grew back into the game and pulled one back through substitute Richarlison. Son Heung-min then made things a little interesting with Tottenham's second, but it proved too little too late.

Speaking after the win, Gakpo told Sky Sports: "It was a disappointing few weeks where the results were not what we wanted. We could have scored more. It was a good day.

"Everyone wanted to do their best in the last few weeks but it didn't work. We wanted to enjoy it, play for goals, defend together and it was a good result.

"It was a good result and a good header. I'm very happy, very blessed. That was one for my son. Everybody is aware of the situation [with Klopp leaving]. We wanted to show it for the fans but also for the manager and that's what we did today."
