Tottenham will look to bring in a new long-term successor for Hugo Lloris this summer.

And they could also be looking for a new manager because of the growing uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s future as Tottenham boss. Tottenham captain Lloris, 36, has been assured of his status as the club’s undisputed No1 keeper by Conte, although realistically Fraser Forster is only seen as a back-up option.

That is likely to change at the end of the season when Tottenham will look to sign a new keeper who can apply pressure and competition on Lloris.

France keeper Lloris has established himself as one of the recent greats but his mistakes have become more frequent and his latest error against Aston Villa on Sunday was costly as Spurs went on to lose the game.

Lloris is regarded as a big figure at White Hart Lane as both leader and experienced keeper so there is no rush to remove him. But it may be that they look to sign an up-and-coming keeper who will one day be No1 and they are scouting for options with any deal more likely in the summer.

Tottenham could yet be looking to do deals in January not least because Conte is demanding backing in the window after his latest rant in which he warned they will need another “miracle” to reach the top four and they cannot compete with big-spending rivals.

Conte is one of the most sought-after bosses in European football but he is also one of the most demanding and his tenures often end in fall-outs.

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Conte joined Tottenham in November 2021 only on an 18 month contract, there is a 12 month option to extend and the club have been looking to tie him down to a longer deal.

Conte has made it clear he wants to build at Tottenham but also that he will not be satisfied unless they can challenge for trophies and it is unlikely he will stick around without guarantees.

Tottenham did back Conte heavily in last summer’s transfer window and his public outbursts will not be welcome even if the Italian admitted last season that he often uses the tactic to put pressure on clubs and to get his own way.

But Tottenham have to try and get back into the top four and they are in danger of slipping behind unless they can find some consistency.

Tottenham defender Clement Lenglet has admitted the team has to put right their habit of conceding first - they have gone behind in their last ten games in all competitions - and they face a huge fight to get into the top four.

Lenglet said: “If I know I tell my team, we have to change something. We train and work a lot in the week. But we are in bad dynamics and it’s difficult when you concede an opportunity and they score.

“After we have to push more to score, to win or to draw. We have to find the right solution. We need to stay calm and find the right solution. We have to be professional to understand the game and to be better. We have to push to win games to be stronger than ever. We need to fight against all the teams if we want to get top four.”
