Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick mocked Birmingham City's relegation to League One during The Roast of Tom Brady.
The live Netflix event saw comedians and NFL stars come together to roast Brady, who became a minority owner of Birmingham last year and chairs the club's advisory board. And Belichick made a surprise appearance at the roast, having won six Super Bowls with Brady at the New England Patriots.
During his set, the 72-year-old took aim at Birmingham's recent relegation, bluntly stating the team "suck". He said: "I see your soccer team Birmingham City got knocked down another tier in the English football leagues.
"For those not familiar with English football and the intricacies of their obscure regulation system... let me put it in English for you: they suck. Not so easy running a team, is it Tom?"
Birmingham's relegation was confirmed on a dramatic final day of Championship action, with their 1-0 win over Norwich unable to save them as rivals Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle also picked up wins.
Rob Gronkowski breaks silence on Tom Brady returning to New England PatriotsBrady has vowed Birmingham will bounce back from the disappointment and "achieve great things in the future", writing on social media: "Thank you for your support in a tough first year Bluenoses.
"We have a long way to go but it's because of all of you that we'll achieve great things in the future." And Birmingham captain John Ruddy has boldly claimed the club will be back in the Premier League "within five years".
"Relegation is not something I've experienced but it's a situation the club has found itself in too many times and it is paramount that this is the last of those and a culture of positivity and success because the new normal and standards are set around that," Ruddy said.
"The future's bright. The owners have a plan and a project. Most of us won't be here to see that come to fruition. For me, this club will be in the Premier League within five years. I don't think it will affect that but they have to have short-term goals as well as long-term vision - that's the only way you can bring success.
"I feel for the fans. I've been here two years and they have been terrific. They helped us get over the line - and stayed with us even when results weren't going our way. As a group of players, I would just like to apologise for not being with them throughout the course of the season as well."
