The skeletal remains of a man who vanished five years ago have been grimly discovered by a hunter who was looking for deer antlers in a remote mountain.
The hunter had been scouring the Hansel Mountains, southeast of Snowville, Utah, for shed deer antlers when he made the grim discovery on April 27. He alerted authorities, with Box Elder County deputies and a search and rescue team responding to the area to recover the remains.
They were then turned over to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, who used dental records to identify them as Matthew Broncho, who disappeared in 2019. No details about his cause of death were made immediately available.

Gangsters ‘call for ceasefire’ after deadly Christmas Eve pub shootingMr Broncho, from Fort Hall, Idaho, vanished aged 35 on March 24, 2019, along with his dog. A pickup truck belonging to Mr Broncho had been found on I-84 exit 7 in Snowville, with his wallet and phone still inside the truck.
A huge search operation was launched, and Mr Broncho's dog was discovered wandering a few miles outside of Snowville on March 27, 2019. But despite the multi-agency search operation, Mr Broncho was not found.
The investigation into his disappearance remained open but went cold. Now, the sheriff's office has said the investigation remains active but added there was no further information available for release.
It comes as the body of a child found crammed inside a duffel bag has been identified as a boy who has been missing for four months. DNA evidence has identified the body of a child discovered back in March as 4-year-old Damari Carter, authorities in Pennsylvania said on Wednesday.
Dominique Bailey, the mum of Damari, and her boyfriend, Kevin Spencer, have been charged in the child's death. Police were called to a property within Philadelphia's Mantua neighbourhood at around 10am on March 18, where a crew of workers had made the haunting discovery of the severely decomposed corpse inside a duffel bag. The boy was reported missing on December 30, 2023, by family members who hadn't seen him for weeks.
The child's mother had told relatives and authorities that Damari had been hit and killed by a car, but police found no evidence of a crash. After interrogation, police said she gave information on her involvement in the death on January 5. Dominique Bailey, 28, was subsequently arrested and charged alongside Kevin Spencer, 30.
The charges, as detailed in court documents, include murder, conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, abuse of a corpse, false reporting, tampering, and criminal use of a communication facility.
