Don't forget that with select game consoles, your Roku TV will automatically configure specific settings for you, the service said.
LAG PROBLEMS
Issues encountered when playing video games could include input lag, or display lag - the time it takes for a TV or monitor to react and display the commands you've input with a device such as a controller.
"This delay is not typically an issue when watching a movie or TV show," said Roku.
"But with video games, especially those with fast-moving action like a first-person shooter, it is particularly important to have lower input lag for a more responsive and enjoyable gaming experience."
All Roku TV models support a setting called game mode, to help reduce input lag.
"When game mode is turned on, video processing elements such as noise reduction are turned off to optimize TV performance for video game play," it said.
"Game mode can be enabled or disabled individually for each HDMI or A/V port."
So, when a game console that supports game mode, such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, or Xbox 360, is detected on an HDMI port, game mode is enabled automatically.
"You will see an on-screen message the first time the feature is enabled allowing you to decline the automatic change and keep game mode disabled," said Roku.

HOW TO ADJUST GAME MODE
You can easily adjust the game mode setting at any time.
First, switch to the port on your Roku TV where your game console is connected (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, AV).
Then, simply press the star button on your Roku TV remote.
Thirdly, scroll the directional pad and select picture settings. The directional pad is shaped like a plus sign, and is in the middle of your Roku remote.
Scroll and highlight the game mode.
Finally, press left or right to turn the game mode on - or off.
WHAT TO DO IF THE LAG ISSUES CONTINUE
You should also check the network connection speed, display output resolution, and frame rate of your game console.
Then, optimize these settings for the best gaming experience.

ARE THERE ADVANCED FEATURES?
Select Roku TV models support advanced features that enhance usability and picture quality for game consoles connected via HDMI.
"These include HDR gaming, auto low-latency mode, variable refresh rate [VRR], high frame rate, and THX certified game mode [where motion will look smoother without blur]," the description reads.
Low latency mode reduces sound delay when playing games or watching videos, said HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc.
"VRR reduces or eliminates lag, judder and frame tearing for more fluid and better detailed gameplay," it added.
"Video games are great for showing off the sharper picture clarity of 4K Ultra HD (4K) and the expanded contrast and color range of high dynamic range (HDR)," said Roku.
If you're unsure about the model of your Roku TV, go to the home screen and select settings > system > about.
"To take advantage of HDR gaming, both your game console and Roku TV must support HDMI 2.0 or higher," it said.
"Beyond that, there is no specific setting for you to configure to use HDR picture modes.
"Simply make sure your game console is connected using HDMI and properly set up for HDR."
VARIABLE REFRESH RATE
To take advantage of VRR, you must enable the feature on both your game console and your compatible Roku TV.
Firstly, press the home button on your Roku TV remote, then scroll and select settings.
The next step is to select TV inputs, followed by choosing the specific HDMI port where your game console is connected.
Finally, select variable refresh rate to turn the feature on or off.
