Gemma Collins is facing heartache as her beloved mum has been taken to hospital and placed in intensive care. The distraught TOWIE icon, aged 43, shared the distressing news with her Instagram followers on Tuesday, May 7, confessing that her mum is "really ill at the minute."
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Gemma wrote: "So last week I had the shock of my life when my mum stopped breathing, I called an ambulance and was told to prepare for the worst and would I like to resuscitate her. It's been extremely tough but she is stable now and hopefully she will be much better soon. No day is promised so make every day count."
Gemma's mum was also hospitalised in August. The TV star was left distraught after her mum became suddenly sick before she was admitted to hospital for further tests. Luckily, Joan was soon on the mend and back home.
A delighted Gemma took to Instagram soon after news of her mum's hospitalised broke to update her concerned fans, sharing a photo of her mother arriving home with her wheeled walking frame. Gemma wrote at the time: "Mums home and I have Tom Griffin here for some healing. Welcome home nanny."
Gemma took to Instagram days earlier to share a snap of her mum with tubes coming out of her nose as she lay in a hospital bed. Gemma told fans: "Such a scary moment when mum come to hospital. Thank you queens hospital Romford for all your doing." She also shared a sweet picture of her mum in happier times and added: "Love your parents as hard as you can. Thank you to everyone looking after mum @joancollins1 at QUEENS HOSPITAL ROMFORD."
Amy Childs prepared to get cruelly mum-shamed after big decision about her twinsLast year, Gemma also revealed her mum had a health scare when she found a lump between her breast and armpit. Thankfully, a few weeks later, Joan was given the all clear having been told that the lump was not in fact cancerous.
Speaking to The Sun, Gemma said: "It was over the phone. I was in the back of a taxi in London and I was like, ‘Are you all right, mum? Where are you?’ — as we say every day, ten times a day. She said, ‘Ah I didn’t want to tell you, but I’ve had a lump in my breast. I was like, ‘What?’, and she said, ‘But it’s fine I’ve got the all-clear’. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Why didn’t you tell me?'"
Joan has also suffered health woes in the past due to her rheumatoid arthritis, which got so bad to the point that Gemma even feared she would die. "I always tried to be really strong, so when I was with her I was happy, upbeat, like 'Come on mum, you’re gonna be alright!'," she previously shared. "Then I’d leave the house, get in my car and cry for hours... There were moments where me, my dad and my brother said, 'Mum’s going to die'."
