WHEN it comes to top crime drama, Channel 5 are making a mark for themselves.

One show that has proved to be a huge hit for the broadcaster is Dalgleish, which is based on the famous mystery novels by P.D. James.

Who stars in the Channel 5 drama?

Taking the lead in Channel 5's rebooted Dalgliesh is esteemed actor Bertie Carvel.

The star takes the titular role of Detective Adam Dalgliesh, who is tasked we solving unusual murders.

Away from the show, and the actor is best known for Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2015), Doctor Foster (2015) and Les Misérables (2012).

Jeremy Irvine takes on the role of Charles Masterson.

Away from Dalgliesh, she is known for BBC One's Beyond Paradise.

In Dalgliesh she plays the role of Sister Brumfitt.

The actress is best known for her starring role in the 1995 BBC film adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion.

She also starred in British TV comedy All About Me, as Miranda, alongside Richard Lumsden in 2004.

The actress has been married to Bertie Carvel - who plays Dalgliesh - since January 2019.

Sally is best known for Trauma (2018), Coalition (2015) and Borges and I (2009).

The actress also starred in hit TV series The Tower.

What is Dalgliesh about?

The series is set in mid-1970s England and follows Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, a detective and widower, as he strives to solve unusual murders.

Each part follows the stories of the late crime writer PD James’ books.

Channel 5 describes the series as "following Dalgliesh’s career to present day as he solves unusual murders and reveals buried secrets”.

Where was Dalgliesh filmed?

Despite being set in England, Dalgliesh was entirely filmed in Northern Ireland.

For both season one and two Belfast was used as the primary filming location.

The streets around the old Belfast Telegraph building were transformed into a film set back in 2020.

How to watch Dalgliesh

Dalgliesh season one will return to Channel 5 at 9pm from June 7, 2024.

The show will then continue on Friday nights at the same time.

Fans can also stream both season one and two right now on the Channel 5 streaming site My5.
