Ruth Langsford has been left devastated by the discovery that her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes is being consoled by another woman.

According to those close, the GB News presenter, 64, has enjoyed a number of day trips with his female friend but Ruth knew nothing about their daily jaunts - and this, it seems, played a key role in the pair's decision to end their 14 year marriage. And it seems Ruth has been dealt a further blow by having to dismiss claims that she called time on their relationship due to Eamonn's health issues.

In a bid to take care of her emotional and mental health, the TV star, 64, has planned to extend her time off from Loose Women until the end of June and return to the ITV show next month. The mum of one was last seen on screen back in May. In an exclusive chat with the Mirror, one friend explained: "Ruth was hurt when she learned about Eamonn’s friendship with another woman.

"But she is strong and she will be back soon with a smile on her face, putting her best foot forward, as she always does. She needs a bit of time to regroup after everything that’s gone on, which is understandable, but she plans to return to Loose Women, with renewed vigour, in July."

On the prospect of a reconciliation, the friend insisted: “No chance whatsoever." Ruth was left fuming after she found out that Eamonn had been seeing a woman in her forties after he forged a friendship with her two years. ago. He is said to have taken her out to venues including a trip in February to a safari park, plus a Manchester United football match and a Beyonce gig. The news presenter, who had a double hip replacement in 2015 and a spinal operation in 2022, is said to have grown closer to the woman, who remains unnamed, over the past year.

Their friendship evolved after they made contact via social media following a loose connection on the back of a mental health charity. The woman is said to volunteer for a charity which Eamonn became involved with following the death of Ruth’s sister, Julia Johnson, who had suffered with depression. When Eamonn had his back surgery, Ruth had nursed him through his recovery and did the same after he suffered a fall at their Surrey home.

The friend continued: "The thing that deeply upsets and frustrates her is the notion that she’s ditching him because of his ongoing health issues. That is not true. She’s always been there for him. But she has struggled with the knowledge that he’s not always been honest with her." A spokesperson for Ruth said: "Ruth had holiday time booked from Loose Women and has extended her leave. She’s looking forward to returning to the show in due course."

Earlier this week, Ruth posted pictures of her trip to the hairdresser to have her highlights redone, thanking her stylist, Josh Wood, for her new glamorous appearance. Meanwhile, Eamonn returned to his GB News breakfast show just a few days after it was confirmed the pair had split. His acknowledgement of their split was brief as he simply thanked viewers for their kind messages of support. And within minutes, Eamonn focused fully on presenting his show.

A friend close to Ruth explained that it was harder for her as a host on the afternoon discussion show as it usually discusses relationship issues, which made it awkward for her to escape from what she is going through. The couple share a son named Jack and Eamonn also has three children from a previous marriage. A joint statement issued last month addressing the breakdown of their relationship said: ”Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing." Eamonn has since moved out of their home in Weybridge, Surrey.

Ruth has made no secret of her caring for Eamonn through his surgeries and onh=going health issues. At the end of last year she said: "With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy, but if something happens to somebody you love, you help them as much as you can."
