Darwin Nunez isn't the first Liverpool player to delete all trace of the club from Instagram - and following in those footsteps doesn't bode well.

The 24-year-old has caused a social media stir in the aftermath of the 4-2 victory over Tottenham on Sunday. As has been a repeated theme since his arrival in the 2022 summer transfer window, he was wasteful in front of goal in his cameo off the bench.

Nunez headed straight down the Anfield tunnel at full-time despite the victory, which furthered fan frustration. And with some taking that out online, he responded by removing every Liverpool-related picture from his social media page.

Not only that, but he also appeared to block supporters who had voiced their annoyance. The last Reds player to pull the Instagram stunt was the ever-divisive Dejan Lovren.

He too struggled to find consistency in Jurgen Klopp's side, despite regularly impressing for the Croatia national team and being bought as a highly-rated centre-back after just a season at Southampton for £20million.

Lovren came in for particular criticism following a 4-1 defeat to Spurs in October 2017. He'd been at fault for their opponents' second goal of the game, missing a long ball and allowing Harry Kane to capitalise.

It was so bad that Klopp hauled him off after just half an hour. Following the loss, he deleted Liverpool from his Insta bio, took off his profile picture and disabled comments on his account.

Lovren did return to the starting XI and was a regular in defence for the rest of that season. But Klopp sought to resolve their troubles at the back, signing Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window.

His minutes therefore gradually reduced until his eventual exit in 2020, with his Liverpool career never the same again. He spent two years with Zenit St Petersburg before joining Lyon last year.

Nunez's actions have naturally raised question marks over his future on Merseyside. He cost £75m - potentially rising to £85m - and has had two seasons to settle into the side, yet still struggles to reach the output expected of him.

Across all competitions he has 31 goal contributions this campaign, a healthy number albeit one with should be larger. And a big decision on his future could await incoming boss Arne Slot.
