Matty Healy was completely taken aback by Taylor Swift's latest album and the explosive tracks she seemingly dedicated to their short-lived romance.

The 1975 frontman was first linked to the Shake It Off hitmaker last year, following her split from former fiancé Joe Alwyn and their fleeting romance ended a month later, in June, 2023. But for Taylor, 34, this was enough inspiration for her latest album The Tortured Poets Department.

Released in April, 2024, the album features a series of songs referring to her ill-fated relationship with Matty, 35, but according to one of his pals, he hadn't expected to be mentioned due to the fact his relationship with Taylor wasn't considered "serious."

Speaking to Us Weekly on Thursday, June 6, the close source said: "He loves the attention it's brought to him, [but] he also thinks it's hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious."

The singer is said to have been "blindsided" by the content of Taylor's album, particularly her lyrics, some of which include alleged references to their romance: "You s**t-talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles", she notably sings in track "loml."

Taylor continued: "You and I go from one kiss to getting married/Still alive, killing time at the cemetery/Never quite buried/In your suit and tie, in the nick of time", and for Matty's anonymous pal, her claims are unfounded.

"For her to be saying things about baby carriages …and living together - he says it had never even come up. He's taking it in his stride", the insider added.

Taylor is thought by her fans to have dedicated a series of songs to Matty, not holding back in Fortnight, which features Post Malone, and The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived as she described their relationship in detail. The son of Denise Welch has since faced intense scrutiny from some of her fans, prompting him to issue a quick response.

The reaction came as Matty was ambushed by an American paparazzo in Los Angeles who then quizzed him on his opinion on the diss tracks aimed at him. Despite the tension, the singer kept things cordial as he responded: "My diss track? Oh! I haven't really listened to that much of it, but I'm sure it's good." And he wasn't the only one to react to the album.

In late April, 2024, Loose Women panellist Denise Welch - who recently came under fire after locking horns with Dickie Arbiter on live TV - also responded to Taylor Swift's album but, much like her son, she remained polite. "I wasn’t aware she had an album out at all", she said, adding: "I haven’t heard anything about it. Anyway, I wish her all the best."

More recently, Matty showcased a completely new appearance during a stroll in New York City. Since his split from Taylor, he has found love with Gabbriette Bechtel, model and lead singer of punk rock band Nasty Cherry.
