APPLE may be days away from unleashing a brand new app that iPhone fans have been demanding for years.

It'll launch across iOS for iPhone, iPadOS for iPad, and macOS for Mac computers.

The app is reportedly called Passwords, according to a report by Bloomberg.

It's designed to work just like a password manager, helping you to generate complex and unique log-ins – and then save them for later use.

Apple already offers a feature like this called iCloud Keychain, but these passwords are tucked away inside a menu inside Settings.

Now Apple is rumoured to be launching a standalone app for it at the company's annual WWDC event on Monday, June 10.

Apple typically uses the event to unveil all the new features coming to its devices via software updates.

But while the news will likely land on Monday, the software updates generally don't roll out to the public until September.

Apple hasn't confirmed any details about exactly what we'll see at the event, but artificial intelligence upgrades look likely – as well as a dedicated Passwords app.

LOGGING ON!

Fans were overjoyed about the news, with a Reddit thread on the rumour earning thousands of "upvotes".

One happy fan wrote: "Thank goodness. I am tired of going into Settings > Passwords 15 times a day."

Another said: "Finally. So dumb to have to go to Safari settings to get a password."

And another added: "It's about time they have a replacement for the Keychain app."

One iPhone owner even created their own workaround to the problem.

"I have an icon that runs a Shortcut that takes me to the passwords section," they explained.

SAFETY FIRST

Password managers are a great way to boost your online security.

One big problem is that people often choose simple passwords that are easy to remember.

But password managers will typically generate long and complicated passwords for you – and then save them.

That way they're more "hacker-proof" because they take far longer to "crack" or guess than a short password.

Another problem with passwords is that people who use complicated passwords will often re-use them across multiple apps or services.

This may be easier to remember, but it means that if the password for one of your accounts is hacked or leaked then your other log-ins are also at risk.

Good password managers let will create unique passwords for each app so you don't end up having multiple accounts hacked at once.
