The billionaire Brit and his Ineos team also own French club Nice, which they bought in full back in 2019.

The dual ownership has already started to cause problems as both teams qualified for the Europa League this season - breaching Uefa's multi-club ownership rules.

Uefa doesn't allow two teams owned by the same group to compete in the same competition, in the interest of sporting integrity.

However, they have been given the green light to compete next season with the expectation that rules will tighten to prevent it happening again in the future.

According to the Independent, this has prompted Ratcliffe and Ineos to look at selling Nice in order to prevent Man Utd and Nice from being kicked from European competition.

It's also claimed that Ratcliffe is keen to sell Nice in order to put more focus and attention into United, having achieved a lifelong dream by becoming involved at Old Trafford.

The report goes on to explain that Ineos may find it difficult to sell Nice with the landscape of French football currently less than financially fruitful.

Ligue 1 is yet to find broadcasting partner for next season and forecasts are understood to have fallen from around £851million to £425million.

However, it's reported that Nice's south coast location could be attractive to prospective buyers.

Ineos also own Swiss club Lausanne-Sport, but they have not qualified for Europe and don't appear to be up for sale as things stand.

Ratcliffe still has plenty on his plate in Manchester as he and his tag team of execs try and clean up the mess at Old Trafford.

The number one priority for now is making a decision on the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

SunSport understands that the club are close to announcing a decision with all indications pointing towards an exit for the Dutchman.

Ten Hag guided United to FA Cup glory at Wembley last month despite finishing eighth in the Premier League table and rock bottom of their Champions League group.

The Red Devils have been undergoing an intense review of the season before publicly making an announcement on Ten Hag's future.

Candidates to replace him include Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter, with England boss Gareth Southgate still a post Euros possibility.
